As with other top iRobot models (including the top pick), they use intelligent mapping technology to create precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also have carpet boost, a feature which boosts the robot's power when it sees the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned up quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare They are also adept at cleaning dog hair. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good value, especially if your home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save money. It's also very quiet and operates while you are at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad for a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its smart cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also features strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This top-performing mop and vacuum combo uses advanced sensor technology to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it also learns your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to remove and extend its mop. This can help avoid cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also perfect to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire house, finishing with only 66 percent of its battery left. It did a decent cleaning job on various flooring and rooms with different flooring types, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robotic cleaner and mop vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxy units, this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the sole robot hoover and mop vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot vacuums that mop we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's a noisy unit which could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful, but it's going to cost you more and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this was not foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home based on how dirty the areas are.

If you have a larger home, it's worth selecting a robot that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice control. A stair mode can be useful if you own a large furniture. For families with busy schedules recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be very beneficial.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It is a good vacuum cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a rotating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It also has a powerful suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. And you can create a spot-clean that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute little eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it is more likely to be caught on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we've test. It also has an app that is less intuitive and a small base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
