There are some issues however, which hinder them from being our first choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to get stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate through rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It doesn't also come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and can work while you're at work or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle, however. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot cleaner we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the house depending on how dirty the areas are.

For larger houses it's worth looking for a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a specific area of your home via the app or voice controls. A stair mode can be useful if you own a number of furniture. 5. iRobot Roomba RX3
