WoW Upgrades - The Item upgrader mod Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to the enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and is accessible at any time to upgrade your gear. To keep your gear current it is recommended you visit the upgrader each few weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item however they'll always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment. For instance, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item upgrading from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor using an button, which will display an item's preview at the next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot for the item and the current item level. For instance weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Certain upgrades provide discounts on Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.

Many locations offer item upgraders, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no item upgrader available at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via several methods which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

Crests

Crests are an integral element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be used on equipment of a particular rank, and that every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade items is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, based on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content that is of the appropriate level, whether that means walking around and doing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons with all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader for the item, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and pathways.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, however it does bring some changes to the upgrade process. For instance, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important modification is that crests have one purpose, so it's important to use them properly. For instance it's best to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment available and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you're planning on making. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, that will be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all of the slots are filled with top-quality equipment.
