WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

The more modernized gear generally has a greater value for trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and can be visited at any time to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks, to keep your equipment up-to-date.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item upgrades but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. For instance, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players through item upgrader mod upgrader NPCs in exchange for various currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any tool, weapon or armor. The button will show the preview of an item's next upgrade level in the event that there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the item upgrader mod slot, and the current level of the item. For example, weapons will cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades offer discounts on Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Many locations have upgraders for their items which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and a possibility of obtaining an entirely new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade must be acquired through various methods that are both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features have been added to the upgrade system. After an upgrade has been completed to a certain level of item for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This is true even if those items are from another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed to upgrade is reduced and the discount is affixed to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW, players have a couple of options. Flightstones are an Item Level Upgrade that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that the crests can only be purchased for equipment with a certain rank. Each rank comes with a different upgrade path. The simplest and simplest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade requires up to 20 crests, based on the type or gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities or completing dungeons and raids in all difficulties to get equipment of lower tier or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for gear in the endgame. Crests can be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, however it brings some changes to the process of upgrading. When a piece reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests only have one purpose, so it's important to use them properly. For instance it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment available and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning on making. This is particularly true for items such as trinkets and rings that fill several slots. The account-wide discount will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
