WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boosts in specific statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. A random extra substat is also increased with each upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks, to keep your equipment up to date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the item level, however, they are always cheaper than buying new gear. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for tools, armor, weapon, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any tool, weapon or armor. The button will show a preview of an item's next upgrade items level when there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot for the item upgrades and the current level of the item. For instance, weapons will cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Many locations have upgraders for their items, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and the possibility of obtaining a new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are only available through a variety means. This is both a positive and an issue.

In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. Once an upgrade has been completed to a certain item level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. This applies even if those items are from another set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a variety of options. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are utilized during specific Item Level Upgrade (Telegra.Ph) level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only able to be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and each rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and simplest upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the most complex may require as many as 20 crests depending on the type of gear that is being upgraded.
